South America, the gem of the new world – a world unto its own, and one that deserves to be discovered, even by the most naïve of explorers. Because what you will find there is different from what you have heard. As with anything, to experience it, it must be felt firsthand.
Colombia
As you enter the continent from the north, the first country you are likely to step foot onto is Colombia.
Colombia is a beautiful land that is growing ever safer by the day; the people are incredibly friendly, the countryside is varied and beautiful, and the cities are thriving with music, art and good food.
Scuba Diving
With amazing beaches come the opportunity to snorkel and scuba dive. South America, being a large spread across the equator and Southern Hemisphere, has some ridiculous beaches. Colombia and Brazil are famed for their incredible beaches, and with tropical warm waters come brilliant coral reefs.
Hiking Cover
If you are going to go to Peru, which is possibly one of the most beautiful countries in the world, you just might be hiking to the famous Machu Picchu. This hike is incredible and will take you through some of the remote rainforests of the Peruvian hinterland. With awe inspiring views a daily treat, you’ll feel like a new person afterwards – and wonder why we live the way we live.
Where else but South America?
So, which are the countries that make up South America? As we mentioned before, Colombia is in the northern-most part of the continent, and next to Colombia.
Other small nations of Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. These countries are becoming more favoured tourist destinations as they are largely untapped and have lower prices.
Compare for the best
People travelling around this continent will often travel light, expect to get dirty, so don’t bring your best clothing.
If we head South-East from French Guiana, we will find ourselves in Brazil. Brazil is the largest country on the continent of South America and is one of the largest countries in the world. Brazil is also one of the up-and-coming largest populations and economies in the world. The major cities in Brazil include Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasilia.
The motorcycle diary
South America is a giant continent, and while we are on the topic of Argentina, we might make mention of Che Guevarra, who when he was young famously travelled around the continent on motorcycle.
Great food
Another country not yet mentioned is Bolivia. Bolivia has a lot to offer. There are some beautiful cities there, like La Paz, and you can also go to Copacabana on Lake Titicaca. In the southern parts of Bolivia bordering on Argentina there is a large Italian influence. This means you are likely to find countless numbers of high-quality restaurants for a very small price.
It really is an excellent find, because some of the food you are likely to find north from here can be quite monotonous. Not in that it is bad, only that there is quite a lot of fried food. When you find the mecca of exported Italian food in southern Bolivia, you are likely to be very pleased.
