Algeria Demographics

Language  Arabic; French; Berber
Area:  2,381,741 sq. km
Population:     41,320,000
Capital City:         Algiers

Prior to the arrival of the French around 1830, Algeria was known to Europeans as the Barbary Coast famous for its pirates who continually plundered Christian shipping.

Algeria up until the 1990s was a popular tourist destination on a par with its neighbour Morocco.

The civil war of the 1990s has made it almost impossible to visit Algeria with peace of mind re one’s safety. This situation has improved somewhat in later years, but there is still a need to be extremely cautious.

The Australian government and Smart Traveller recommend appropriate insurance information if you are travelling overseas and to ensure that you are properly covered with comprehensive travel insurance.
The cost of medical, dental and let alone the inconvenience of the lost luggage can ruin your holiday.
