Papua New Guinea located just south of the equator climate is tropical. December to March is the wet season, although occasional rains fall year-round.

While Port Moresby, the capital, and other towns on the coast are quite hot and dry in the summer months (comparable to Darwin), temperatures are considerable cooler in the Highlands with Goroka reputedly having the most liveable climate in the world.
